Doppel : The Pink Swimsuit

Doppelganger; A new series that I’ll be keeping up with, as I scour the net for similar products. Sort of get the look for less, or get the look for more, whichever way you look at it. Today’s? The pink + black swimsuit that would be perfect for a end-year vacation getaway. (I’m ignoring the fact that I might get some unsightly tan lines though, but since I rarely expose my midriff, I think I’ll be able to deal with it.)

River Island vs Agent Provocateur

With almost a 5 times price difference between the two pieces, and with very close design and color similarities, would it really make a difference which one you purchase? From my experience, it is hard to keep swimwear in good condition, especially with exposure to the sun, saltwater and maybe even chlorine water. Comparing both though, I’m more inclined to the design of the RI piece – less straps & bandages ensure that less of your meat is squished out when you’re wearing it, thus ensuring an overall leaner look, no? The color combination is what sold me – will look perfect against a tanned body, with white reflective sunnies and a wide-brimmed straw hat.

In Grace she walks

All photos by me.

What I spent the day doing? Meeting up with Grace Clapham, a dear close friend of mine whom I met at the start of my entrepreneurial journey. Grace has constantly provided me with support, advice, a listening ear, and lots and lots of inspiration & motivation. She is the co-founder of Secret {W} Business, and Creative Mornings in Singapore. Additionally, she consults for a myriad of businesses, big and small, and is such a change maker. Grace has such boundless energy, and is both beautiful inside and out. Look at how gorgeous she looks in ERIIN’s clothing! I love bouncing ideas off her and she never fails to lift my spirits. I think she’s definitely one person in my life I never regret meeting up with, and I always feel an instant mind-connection with her when we talk.

I went down to her place at Tiong Bahru today, and with her generosity, Maisha and I dressed her up a bit and played with a couple of shots around her house for ERIIN. These photos are just a sneak peek at what’s to come, and I’ll be picking a bit of Grace’s brain in an interview and sharing it with everyone. I love being in touch with strong women who have such amazing dreams and are busting their asses to get to where they want to be while helping countless of other people at the same time. I was able to get some feedback from her on a couple of ideas and questions I had floating in my head, since I’m in a bit of a conundrum and mess with my ideas and work at the moment. I feel a lot clearer and focused now, despite being completely exhausted from the day out. Days like these make me thankful that I’ve walked down the path I am on now, and that I’ve met such bright, bright individuals like Grace.

All Black, All Leather

Monki leather top, Zara leather short, Monterey Birkenstocks, Michael Kors watch, H&M Men’s Pouch

Finally, I braved it all today and wore my Birkenstocks out. After hiding them at home for the past week, and slipping them on every now and then to get a feel of them, it was go-time show-time today! I was extremely worried about getting completely blistered out and rubbed raw, but it was very much less than expected. No rawness, no blisters, only aches at the foot of my feet since I’m flat footed and have no contours that fit that of the Birks.

Decided on an all leather outfit.. because why not? I must admit though, I’m not that great at keeping leather, as you have already discovered from the condition this poor Monki leather top is in. Dug up this old pouch to keep my new baby in – Sony 5ND – since I’m always prone to dropping my electronics. I’ve killed three phones in the toilet bowl, dropped a dumb bell on one of my MacBooks (utterly destroying only the CD reader, how is that possible?), as well as dropped another of my MacBooks while waiting to cross the road, which rendered it in complete comatose and it could never be brought back to life. Sometimes my mind just switches itself off, and my muscle functions cease to operate. I know, weird.

After examining my photos, I’ve realized that my arm swag situation has slowly decreased over the years. I used to stack them on, and was always questioned why my arms didn’t feel weighed down my countless pieces. Currently though, less is more. Everything I wear on my arms have sentimental value – Hermes bracelet I got from Tokyo 6 years back, “Believe in Better” engraved bracelet from my two best girl friends, my Michael Kors watch which I got for myself 1.5 years into starting my own business, and rings I’ve purchased while traveling London or are gifts from people I love. Constant reminder that I am blessed and lucky to be where I am now. Thank you.
